American Aerials Skier Jamie Myers Ends Career

Park City, UT – 2003 U.S. Aerials Championships silver medalist, Boise, Idaho native Jamie Myers, has announced her retirement with the U.S. Freestyle Ski Team following the 2010 winter season.n”It’s hard. It’s not like it was a job, it was something I was very passionate about. It’s a part of me that I always will have. It’s like a relationship and now it’s done and over. You’re going to miss it, but you know it’s always going to be there,” explained Myers. “I’m thankful for the memories and everything I took from it but I’m still sad at the same time.”

Myers, like many aerialists, began twisting and flipping as a gymnast, putting aerials on the backburner to attend the University of Utah, graduating in 2006. Perfecting the balance of school and competition, she surprised herself with a silver medal at the 2003 U.S. Championships followed by a NorAm Cup podium in 2004.

Myers entered the World Cup circuit in 2005 in Lake Placid, N.Y., landing in 15th in the first of two aerials events. Her best World Cup finish came three years later, in March 2008 in Davos, Switzerland, where she scored a top-10 finish in seventh. In her final season with the Team, she posted a NorAm Cup podium and two fourth place finishes.

“For highlights, my best season was 2008,” said Jamie. “It was my best World Cup season.”

Myers is not moving too far away from the sports industry, dedicating her time to Backcountry.com. Jaime expanded a part time customer service job while on the U.S. Ski Team into the same job with the addition of an internship in the communications and marketing department at the Park City-based outdoor gear online retailer. Myers, who graduated from the University of Utah in 2006 with a bachelor’s in communications plans to explore future options with Backcountry.com.

“My favorite times with the Team were when we did our spring conditioning camp in San Diego. We were all miserable because it was a lot of hard work but we were all miserable together, so it was really fun,” said Myers. “I’m going to really miss just the camaraderie of the Team, everyone just really looked out for everyone else. That was what was fun and kept me going.”
