SoCal Ski and Snowboard Season Starts Today

Wrightwood, CA – Mountain High Resort in Wrightwood is open today with top-to-bottom skiing and snowboarding. This marks the 14th year in a row they have been the first resort to open in Southern California and they are one of only 10 ski resorts currently open in the U.S. In honor of Veteran’s Day, all veterans and active military ski and ride for free with proper ID.n“Winter is our favorite time of year and I’m excited that we were able to open so early,” says Mountain High’s Karl Kapuscinski. “Join us for opening day and help us celebrate the start of the 2010-11 season.”

Operating hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. The Blue Ridge Express lift is available accessing Upper Chisolm, Lower Chisolm and Cruiser which consists of predominately intermediate terrain. More lifts are expected to open Friday including Coyote, which will access Sunnyside and Easy Street. All of the open terrain has had its eight to 12 inch base of manmade snow groomed. For freestyle skiers and snowboarders there are two small jumps on Upper Chisolm and a number of fun rails and boxes.

Early season ticket prices are $40 for adults and $25 for children ages 7 to 12. Kids six and under ski free when accompanied by a paying adult. Tickets will be limited so guests are advised to arrive early.

A full line of rental and retail products will be available along with repair services and food and beverage. The Winter Sports School is not yet offering lessons but will as soon as the mountain has the necessary beginner terrain.
