Searchers Looking for Lost Snowboarder on California’s Mt. Shasta

Mount Shasta, Calif. – The Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office is leading an extensive search effort to locate a snowboarder missing from Mount Shasta Ski Park since Thursday.nAlex Gautreaux, 23, of Mount Shasta, was snowboarding at the Ski Park during heavy snowfall on Thursday morning before phoning a family member shortly after noon, indicating that he was taking one final run. He has not been seen or heard from since, and his automobile was located in the ski area’s parking lot Thursday evening.

Searchers from the Sheriff’s Department, CAL FIRE, and search and rescue teams from Jackson, Shasta, Klamath, Lassen, Josephine, and San Mateo counties, as well as the U.S. Forest Service, are focusing on tree wells within the ski area’s perimeter, particularly near the ski area’s Douglas lift, after earlier searching out-of-bounds areas. Area Nordic ski teams are also assisting in the effort.
