Teen’s Family Asks for $2 Million in Wrongful Death Lawsuit Over Accident at Blue Mountain Ski Area

Collingwood (ON), Canada – The family of a girl killed in a skiing accident while on a school trip to Blue Mountain in Collingwood in March 2009 has filed a wrongful death lawsuit in an Ontario court, seeking CAN$2 million in damages.nElisabeth Reurink, 17, of London, Ontario, died after striking a tree. The lawsuit alleges that her physical education teacher at London’s Catholic Central High School encouraged Reurink to ski the intermediate L-Hill that was beyond her abilities without being given adequate instruction. The ski area and school officials have been named as defendants, along with the school board and two unnamed Blue Mountain ski instructors.

The family’s statement of claim alleges that the impact was severe enough to sever her aorta and brain stem, killing her instantly.
