Anchorage Doctor Dies Following Alyeska Skiing Accident

Anchorage, AK – An Anchorage doctor succumbed on March 15 to injuries sustained in a skiing accident on March 11 at Alyeska Resort in Girdwood, Alaska.nWilliam J. Mills III, 53, an orthopedic surgeon in Anchorage, was on life support at Providence Alaska Medical Center since shortly after Friday’s accident. Ski patrollers found Mills unconscious in the Ballroom section of Alyeska’s double black diamond-rated North Face. He had been skiing the portion of the mountain alone after skiing with his son earlier in the day, and there were no witnesses to his accident.

There were two gates to the North Face open at the time of the incident, Chuck’s Gate and Picnic Gate. It is unclear which gate Mills used to enter the North Face. Conditions in the area were reportedly hard and icy at the time.

A statement released by Mills’ family indicates that the victim’s organs will be donated.
