Skier Killed After Colliding with Lift Tower at Minnesota Resort

Welch, MN – A 65-year-old Minnesota man was killed last Wednesday when he struck a lift tower while skiing at Welch Village ski area near Red Wing.nGeorge Conway, of La Crescent, Minn., lost control on the afternoon of Mar. 16 while descending the resort’s Wild Finale trail with an adult grandson when a witness indicates he lost control and struck the tower of a double chairlift. Wild Finale is rated with a single black diamond, and snow conditions at the time were spring-like, according to police.

Conway was pronounced dead at the scene. His death is the first fatality recorded in Welch Village’s 45-year history.
