Cherry Creek, NY – As if the burning of its historic base lodge in February wasn’t enough, vandals struck Cockaigne ski area in western New York State over the weekend, damaging ski lifts and other facilities.

A resort spokesperson indicates that none of Cockaigne’s lifts was spared damage that included broken control knobs and graffiti that included the date 7/3/11, indicating that the damage took place over the holiday weekend. All four four-by-eight foot plexiglass-enclosed trail maps were damaged, and one of the maps is missing.

The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s office is investigating.
