Copper to Hold Fundraiser for Skier Critically Injured in Teton Tumble

Copper Mountain, CO – Copper Mountain ski resort in Colorado has renamed the “Super Hero” heat at this Saturday’s CopperMan adventure race as the “Super Hero Sally” heat to show support and love for Sally Francklyn, a long-standing member of the resort’s ski patrol who was critically injured in an accident two weeks ago while skiing the sidecountry adjacent to Wyoming’s Jackson Hole Mountain Resort.

The former web editor of SKI and Skiing magazines, Francklyn joined Copper Mountain Ski Patrol 10 years ago as a junior patroller and has remained an active member of the patrol team through the 2011-12 season, even though she relocated to Jackson Hole this winter to join a local public relations firm.  On March 24, Francklyn was injured while skiing with friends in the Once Is Enough couloir when she tumbled several hundred feet and shattered her ski helmet against rocks.  She was airlifted to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls, where she was placed in a medically induced coma due to cranial fractures.

According to the latest update posted by her brother Chris Francklyn, Sally was removed from her sedatives last week and is now wiggling her figures and toes, albeit unconsciously, and she remains in the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit.

Starting today, Super Woman Sally Supporters will have the option of purchasing a $49 entry for this honorary CopperMan heat, and 50 percent of proceeds will benefit Francklyn’s recovery. Super Hero Capes will be sold during the event for $10, and 100 percent of those proceeds will also be donated to Francklyn. Online donations can also be made directly to Sally’s Super fund.

During the race, there will be an obstacle called “Leap of Faith.” Followers of Francklyn’s recovery will be able to view images online at www.CopperColorado.com as race participants show their support by entertaining her with their best super hero leaps.
