Snowfall Cancels Second Birds of Prey Training Run

Avon, CO – Over a foot of snowfall overnight and a forecast for continuous snow throughout the day has canceled the second of three Audi Birds of Prey World Cup downhill training runs scheduled for today at Beaver Creek. The opening training run slated for Tuesday was also called due to complications in athlete travel out of Calgary, Alberta – also due to snow.

The rough start to men’s ski racing in Beaver Creek translates to great news for Colorado resorts as they prepare for the busy holiday season.

U.S. Ski Team athletes including Travis Ganong, Nick Daniels and Jared Goldberg took full advantage of the opportunity to get in some powder skiing and also spent time thanking the volunteer Talon Crew for the incredible effort they put into course preparation.

“Beaver Creek consistently sets the standard for hill preparation. It’s a place we never have to worry about because we know – regardless of the weather – the track will be awesome,” said U.S. Ski Team athlete Ted Ligety, of Park City, Utah. “Bad weather is nothing new to them and I’m not the least bit worried that the track will be perfect when the snow lets up.”

Ganong, Ligety, Bode Miller, Steven Nyman, Marco Sullivan and Travis Ganong are among the top U.S. Ski Team athletes slated to start the season’s second downhill. All three Audi FIS Alpine World Cup races this weekend will be broadcast same-day in the U.S., along with the final downhill training run slated for Thursday.
