Children Invited to Free Snowboarding Event at Albany’s Colonie Center

Colonie, NY – Kids need to be active during the winter months and snowboarding is one way to get them outdoors for healthy cold weather fun. That’s why Jiminy Peak Mountain Resort in the Berkshires, and Bromley Mountain in southern Vermont, have banded together with snowboard maker Burton to offer a free afternoon snowboard experience at Colonie Center in Albany, N.Y. from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 22.

Last season over 8,000 children in North America were introduced to the sport at similar events, which first started in Vancouver during the 2010 Olympic Winter Games.

Children ages three through six will be loaned a snowboard and helmet, then pulled through a series of obstacles in Burton’s specially constructed Riglet Park by experienced Jiminy Peak and Bromley snowboard instructors. No special clothing is required; the snowboards that they’ll use fit an ordinary pair of sneakers.

Snowboarding instruction at Riglet Park is free and no advance registration is required. After their introductory snowboarding experience, children will receive a $20 KidsRule coupon good towards snowboarding lessons at Jiminy Peak and Bromley this coming season.

The event will be held on the second floor of the Colonie Center shopping mall, outside Christmas Tree Shop.
