Police Make Arrest in Monarch Sexual Assault Attempts

Monarch, CO – A 15-year-old Monument, Colo. boy has been arrested in connection with two reported attempted sexual assaults at Colorado’s Monarch Mountain ski area.

The suspect, whose name has not been released because of his age, was arrested on Tuesday, the Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office reports.  The two incidents, alleged to have taken place on Dec. 19, 2014 and Jan. 1, 2015, each involve a teenage girl boarding one of Monarch’s ski lifts alone. The suspect allegedly followed the girl down the mountain and attempted to divert her into the woods. In the Jan. 1 incident, the suspect is alleged to have discharged a handgun in an attempt to coerce the victim’s cooperation.

The sheriff’s office indicates that charges to be filed against the suspect include felony menacing, aggravated criminal extortion, enticement of a child, false imprisonment, two counts of criminal attempt to commit sexual assault, two counts of criminal attempt to commit 2nd degree kidnapping, and harassment.

The investigation is continuing, however sheriff’s deputies indicate that no further arrests in the case are expected at this time.
