Mount Snow Plans Thanksgiving, Snow or No

West Dover, VT – Despite the warm spell currently enveloping New England, the winter season is anticipated to begin by Thanksgiving at Mount Snow. Even if the Vermont resort’s slopes aren’t covered in snow by then, however, Mount Snow has a variety of events planned along with some special offers to attract visitors for the long holiday weekend.

“We always try to open for skiing and riding on or before Thanksgiving, but it’s all up to Mother Nature,” said Kelly Pawlak, Mount Snow’s General Manager. “Once it gets cold our snowmakers can produce a lot of snow in a short period of time. Regardless if carving turns is a part of the festivities, it’s always a fun weekend at the mountain.”

For those looking to enjoy a Thanksgiving meal at home without the effort, Mount Snow will do the cooking for you with Thanksgiving Feasts To-Go. The resort is taking advance orders for full turkey dinners that include all the fixings and feed anywhere from eight to 14 people. Orders must be placed by November 20 for pickup anytime between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day.

Work off that second helping of pie at the Turkey Hangover Hill Climb, which starts in the resort’s Main Base Area at noon on Friday, Nov. 27. This free event is a race from the starting line up to a point on the hill and back with three categories – green circle (easiest/shortest), blue square (intermediate/longer), and black diamond (most difficult/longest). Winners will go home with prizes and all ages and ability levels are encouraged to participate.

Then on Saturday, Nov. 28 the skies will light up with a huge fireworks display that follows the first torchlight parade of the season, conditions permitting. After the fireworks, guests can make their way inside the Main Base Lodge and get their picture taken with Santa and Mrs. Claus for free.

Mount Snow is so confident they will be open by Thanksgiving, they are offering a Thanksgiving Ski Guarantee package. This is for any guest who books a lift and lodging package at a resort lodging property for Thursday, Nov. 26 through Sunday, Nov. 29. If none of the mountain’s three primary high speed lifts in the Main Base Area are open during their stay, the resort will provide them with a certificate to return for the same number of nights and the same number of lift tickets anytime midweek/non-holiday this winter – for free. If someone books and doesn’t want to come up because the mountain isn’t open for skiing and riding, they can cancel up to 24 hours before their arrival.
