Rocky Mountain Underground Partners with First Descents

Breckenridge, CO – Breckenridge boutique ski maker Rocky Mountain Underground (RMU) has partnered with Denver-based cancer charity First Descents to press some skis with a cause.

Earlier this month, RMU introduced a brand new “non-profit” version of its Apostle ski that features an exclusive graphic for First Descents.

First Descents offers young adult cancer fighters and survivors a free outdoor adventure experience designed to empower them to climb, paddle and surf beyond their diagnosis, defy their cancer, reclaim their lives and connect with others doing the same. During the First Descents experience, young adult survivors and fighters are empowered through conquering legitimate outdoor challenges to push their limits and face their fears, and by doing so, they are able to regain the confidence and self-efficacy lost to cancer. The experience is designed to allow healing to happen naturally and organically, without forced conversations or structured group sessions or therapy.  All meals, accommodations and program activities are provided free of charge, including travel scholarships, when needed.

The Apostle is RMU’s most awarded ski, and all proceeds from the sale of the First Descents version will be donated to the non-profit. The skis’ dimensions — 126-132-105-120-114 — at first defies explanation, but the five-point shape is said to give the Apostle the extra width you need to float in up to two feet of powder without sacrificing the ability to carve turns with the best of them. A modest tip and tail rocker is specifically matched with a flex pattern that allows the Apostle to be softer in the tip and tail for easy turns in the bumps, woods and deep snow, while the stiffer part of the ski remains in the camber section for reliable edge grip and energetic turns in the firmer snow.
