Calgary (AB), Canada – The FIS Freestyle Ski World Cup circuit stops in Calgary this week for another mogul competition on January 30 at Winsport Canada’s Canada Olympic Park.
Canadians are coming off a highly successful weekend that saw five of six podium spots go to the team, including a podium sweep by the Dufour-Lapointe sisters, Mikaël Kingsbury’s 30th World Cup victory and Laurent Dumais’ first top-three finish at a World Cup.
Kingsbury has now won the first two events of the season and will look to continue his winning streak in Calgary. The native of Deux-Montagnes, Quebec has won five consecutive World Cups in Calgary.
“I’ve always enjoyed competing in Calgary and the course here has always been good to me,” said Kingsbury. “I’m feeling really good right now with where my skiing is and at the level I’m at. Val Saint-Côme was an incredible experience for our team and I think we all want to build on that by putting on solid performances in Calgary. It’s special having another World Cup on Canadian soil and I’m sure it will help motivate all of us.”
Last year Kingsbury shared the podium with teammate Simon Pouliot-Cavanagh who came in second. Pouliot-Cavanagh will not be competing this weekend and is sitting out the remainder of the year to nurse a lower back injury.
Justine and Chloé Dufour-Lapointe finished second and third, respectively, at last year’s event. The sisters have found success in Calgary with Justine reaching the podium four times, including two wins. Chloé has stood on the podium the last three years.
“Last week was such a high for me and my family,” said Justine, who won her first event of the season at Val Saint-Côme. “It was a special moment that we always dreamt about and I am so glad we were able to do it in Canada and in Quebec. We really soaked the moment in. Now we are all focused and looking forward to competing in Calgary. Hopefully the momentum carries over here.”
