Cypress Mountain Snowboarder Found Dead Out of Bounds

West Vancouver (BC), Canada – A 40-year-old man who had been snowboarding at Cypress Mountain on Friday was found dead a day later outside the ski area’s boundary.

The as-yet unidentified man from Surrey, B.C. had been snowboarding with an unidentified female friend when they ventured out of bounds from the resort’s Mount Strachan area around noon on Friday. When he failed to return, rescuers were notified at around 6 p.m. On Saturday, North Shore Rescue located the man’s body below a cliff band in the Montizambert Creek drainage and recovered his remains. It appears that the man rode off the edge of the cliff.

In a statement issued by the resort, Cypress Mountain spokesman Joffrey Koeman indicated that the pair had crossed a double rope line denoting the ski area’s boundary.

“This is very sad for all of us at Cypress Mountain and we offer our sincere condolences to the family and friends,” the statement continued. “We thank North Shore Search and Rescue for their perseverence in carrying on this extended search in hopes of a better outcome.”
