Killington Employee Found Dead in Gondola Terminal

Killington, VT – Vermont State Police are investigating the death of a longtime Killington lift mechanic inside a lift terminal of the resort’s Skyeship Gondola.

Jeffrey K. Chalk, 53, of nearby Pittsford was working alone in the lift’s North Brook terminal on Saturday afternoon when he apparently fell 13 feet from a catwalk to the concrete floor below, sustaining serious head injuries. He was found by a co-worker unconscious and unresponsive.

Chalk was aided by medical personnel at the resort and subsequently transported to the Rutland Regional Medical Center (RRMC) where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Chalk will undergo an autopsy at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) to determine the cause and manner of death. Chalk’s death is being jointly investigated by the Vermont State Police and the OCME. Vermont State Police have also made a standard referral to Vermont’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (VOSHA).
