Norden, CA - Backcountry skiing enthusiasts and party-goers alike will descend upon The Lodge at Sugar Bowl from 5 to 10 p.m. on Nov. 21 to celebrate the opening of newest addition to the 70-year old Tahoe-area ski resort, Alpine Skills International’s Backcountry Adventure Center.

The Center, located in the Village Chalet retail building, will offer a full calendar of educational seminars, a vast array of backcountry-specific rental and retail items provided by Truckee’s The BackCountry, an avalanche transceiver training park, and professionally-guided sidecountry tours for powder skiing in and out of Sugar Bowl. A full list of program details can be found by visiting www.alpineskills.com.

Backcountry Ball festivities will include music by The Crawlers, a hutte-style buffet dinner, cash bar, door prizes, raffles, exhibits from various gear manufacturers and tours of the new Center itself. Local avalanche forecasters Sierra Avalanche Center will be in attendance, educating skiers and riders on how and why to read their daily reports, as well as selling $35 lift tickets valid at Sugar Bowl for their annual benefit day on Mar. 28, 2010. Many of Alpine Skills International’s AMGA and IFMGA-certified guides will be on hand to further discuss the new Backcountry Adventure Center programs in detail, including how to sign up, overviews of the outings, prerequisite knowledge and fitness requirements, and the latest in backcountry gear functionality.

RSVPs for the Backcountry Ball can be emailed to asi(at)alpineskills.com. Tickets are $15, paid night-of at the door, with $5 benefiting the Sierra Avalanche Center. Space is limited.

Sugar Bowl's new Summit Chair will take skiers and riders to the top of the Judah Bowl, enhancing sidecountry opportunities that make the Backcountry Adventure Center's programs possible.
