S. Lake Tahoe, CA - When Lake Tahoe's Heavenly Mountain Resort opens for skiing and snowboarding this Friday, staffers plan to launch the season with almost 40 acres of available terrain accessed by the Heavenly Gondola, Tamarack Express and Dipper Express Chairlifts.

“Thanks to our incredible snowmaking crew and system, Heavenly will open with mid-winter conditions and expanded terrain,” said an enthusiastic Blaise Carrig, Heavenly’s COO and co-president of Vail Resorts’ Mountain Division. “In addition to California Trail we will also open Orion’s run providing our guests with access to the most open terrain and best snow surface conditions in Lake Tahoe.”

Orion’s run is Heavenly’s one-mile long signature trail on the upper Nevada side of the mountain accessed via the Dipper Express Chairlift.

For the season thus far, Heavenly’s snowmaking system has operated for over 190 hours. The resort will open with California Trail and Orion’s run available for skiing and snowboarding. The resort plans to follow with more terrain as weather conditions permit.

Heavenly will operate for skiing and snowboarding, weekends from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., and weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Gondola sightseeing and on-mountain dining are also open. All access to the mountain will be through the Heavenly Village Gondola for both uploading and downloading.

The National Weather Service is calling for a snow storm Friday, with Friday’s storm bringing as much as a foot of snow, as well as winds that could impact lift operations.
