Snowshoe, WV - Snow fell early and deep last winter at West Virginia's Snowshoe Mountain ski and snowboard resort. Not this year.

Mother Nature has once again proved how fickle she can be, forcing Snowshoe Mountain to delay its opening day for the winter ski and snowboard season after an unusually mild fall. Snowshoe’s opening day had been planned for this Wednesday, but the resort has seen only four inches of natural snowfall since early October, and has had very few opportunities to make snow for sustained periods.

Forecasts do show cold air and possibly some natural snowfall moving into the resort’s area beginning late next week, and Snowshoe has targeted Dec. 4 as its new tentative opening date.

Instead, the resort will be host Thanksgiving week activities beginning Wednesday, offering guests a variety of amenities off the slopes, including several dining and shopping outlets, an indoor/outdoor pool facility, and the resort’s 15,000 square-foot Big Top Entertainment Centre. The resort’s Junction Restaurant will serve a traditional Thanksgiving Feast on Thursday.
