Boise, ID - Ski swaps have now recycled gear throughout the community and Idaho's ski areas have finished summer chores. Fall weather is rejuvenating the snowrider's soul, putting trips to the mountain at the top of the weekend to-do list. Skiing and snowboarding will start as early as Thanksgiving in some areas.


Idaho ski resorts with scheduled opening dates are as follows:
  • Bald Mountain Ski Area: Projected opening is the last week in December.
  • Brundage Mountain Resort: Snow base at the summit is 18 inches; 24 inches is required to open.
  • Kelly Canyon Ski Area: Projected opening is Mid-December.
  • Lookout Pass Recreation Area: Currently open Friday through Sunday with plans to be open Thursday through Sunday starting Nov. 27. Lookout Pass will be open seven days a week during the holidays.
  • Lost Trail Powder Mountain: Projected opening is the second or third week of December.
  • Magic Mountain Resort: Projected opening is the third week of December.
  • Pebble Creek Ski Area: Projected opening between Mid-December and Dec. 25.
  • Schweitzer Mountain Resort: Friday, Nov. 27
  • Silver Mountain Resort: Friday, Nov. 27
  • Sun Valley: Thursday, Nov. 26
Any Idaho ski areas not listed were unable to project an opening date at press time. Additionally, Grand Targhee Resort in Alta, Wyo., just across the border from Driggs, Idaho will open this Friday, Nov. 27 on its lower mountain only.
