The global Pink Chase event is open to all women alpine and telemark skiers and snowboarders. Since mid-September, women of all ages have been forming teams of three to raise money for the cause. Teams will compete against other women teams by strategizing ways to ski the most vertical feet. They'll have to determine the best approach through using multiple lifts, managing lift lines and locating the various checkpoints around the mountain to earn vertical bonuses. Following the six-hour ski day, prizes will be awarded in various categories, including recording as much vertical as possible and fundraising for the cause.
The goal is to raise as much money as possible for breast cancer research while having fun skiing and riding on the mountain with their friends and the K2 Alliance. To create a truly global fundraiser, fundraising has taken place in Canada and Europe through September and October. Teams who have raised the most money for breast cancer research in Europe and Canada are invited to participate in the Pink Chase in Colorado.
Proceeds from the on-snow and on-line fundraising efforts will benefit four different breast cancer research organizations. Since 2000, K2 has contributed more than $1 million to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF) and similar organizations focused on the cause of finding a cure for breast cancer in our lifetime. In addition to an annual $75,000 donation, all of the contributions from the K2 Pink Chase will be donated directly to each country's sponsoring foundation. The Breast Cancer Research Foundation and Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation will be the beneficiaries of the North American fundraising efforts.
