Killington, VT - Weather and snowmaking permitting, the Back to SHRED Rail Jam is scheduled to take place this Saturday at Vermont's Killington Resort in front of the ski area's K-1 Lodge.

Killington snowmakers plan to have the guns out at night this week prep the venue for Killington's season kick-off event.

Killington officials will make the final call on the event by 6 p.m. Thursday, prior to registration opening online. With the field limited to only 60 competitors, online registration will open at 8 p.m. Thursday, so check the event page at www.killington.com for updates.

Killington snowmakers resumed their upper mountain efforts last night in the ski resort's Northridge area with low energy guns going on Rime, Reason and Lower East Fall. Staffers hoped to also have a new Techno-Alpin M-18 Fan Gun going at the intersection of Lower Chute, Mouse trap and Lower Bunny Buster.

The Killington-area forecast is currently calling for marginal snowmaking temperatures over the next couple of days and some natural snow Wednesday evening through early Friday morning. Resort officials will wait until top-to-bottom skiing is available before spinning the lifts. "As we’ve stated all along, we’re all very excited to get the season going with top-to-bottom skiing off Killington Peak served by the K-1 Gondola," says Killington spokesperson Tom Horrocks.
