Italian and Swiss Snowboarders Shine at Slalom World Cup in Italy

Limone Piemonte, Italy – Italian and Swiss snowboarders shone in the parallel slalom race on Saturday on the second and last day of the 2011 LG Snowboard World Cup event in Limone Piemonte, Italy. Italians Roland Fischnaller and Aaron March took the first and second place in the men’s race, followed by Roland Haldi of Switzerland.nFischnaller, a three-time Olympian, is no stranger to international competition with 125 World Cup starts and nine World Championships starts. Saturday, however, was a special day for the experienced snowboarder as he captured his first ever victory on the World Cup tour since he began competing on the Tour in 2001.

USA’s Vic Wild was 13th, followed by teammates Michael Trapp in 32nd, Tyler Jewell in 33rd and Garrett Soreteberg in 46th. Canadian snowboarder Matt Morison of Burketon, Ontario, finished in 18th position.

In women’s action, Swiss rider Patriza Kummer won the event, stepping on the podium of a World Cup race for the first time. Kummer’s teammate Fraenzi Maegart-Kohli took the second place, while Russia’s Ekatarina Ilyukhina won the consolation final for the bronze medal.

Lindsay Lloyd topped American riders in 29th, followed by teammate Madeline Wiencke in 39th. Canada’s Caroline Calvé of Montréal, Québec, finished 25th, Ekatarina Zavialova of Calgary, Alberta, was 27th and Ariane Lavigne of Mont-Tremblant, Québec finished 30th.

The 2011 LG Snowboard FIS World Cup Tour now moves to Telluride, Colo., where both Parallel Giant Slalom and Snowboard cross events will be presented from Dec. 15 to 18.
