Ishpeming, MI - The U.S. Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame announced on Tuesday that the deadline for receiving nominations to select Honored Members for the Class of 2010 has been extended by a month to April 30.

The reason for this change is attributed to the recently held Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver and the upcoming Paralympic Games. Bernie Weichsel, the Chairman of the Board of Directors explained, “The United States enjoyed a great deal of success last month and there may be athletes who will decide to retire when the competitive ski season ends. They would then qualify for their possible election to the Hall of Fame. At the same time many skiing officials who may wish to submit a nomination are extremely preoccupied by all these events and will require more time to organize a submission.”

Individuals nominated and elected to the Hall of Fame must have accomplishments at the highest level in skiing and snowboarding. This is especially true of U.S. ski and snowboard team athletes, from all disciplines (alpine, Nordic, freestyle and snowboarding) who have succeeded at the highest levels of international competition.

Anyone can submit a nomination for review by the National Selection Committee. Nomination forms can be found on the Hall of Fame’s web site, www.skihall.com.

The U.S. Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame provides highly respected perpetual national recognition for athletes competing in skiing and snowboarding and for builders of those sports who have made highly significant and lasting contributions to the growth of American ski sports. It is located in Ishpeming, Michigan, the historic birthplace of organized skiing in America.

The next class, made up of eight inductees including three from adaptive skiing, will be inducted into the Hall of Fame on April 9, at Beaver Creek Resort in Colorado.
