Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany - On Friday, 2006 Olympic champion Ted Ligety, of Park City, Utah, will look to repeat the success he had in 2008 as he aims for the second World Cup giant slalom title of his career during the final GS of the season at World Cup Finals in Germany.

"I would be pretty happy to seal that up," said Ligety, who missed the medals at the 2010 Olympics. "It would definitely be awesome to make kind of a disappointing season more worthwhile."

At 43 points ahead of the field, the race to get a crystal globe will be tight. The 2008 GS titlist is still concerned about a host of challengers and knows he can't relax.

"More than Benni (Raich), it's also (Massimiliano) Blardone and (Marcel) Hirscher I have to worry about - those guys are a little closer. But 43 points is a nice lead but it's not that sweet of a lead against those top athletes."

Ligety has a 43 point lead over Blardone, 46 over Hirscher and 53 over Raich. A top-three finish will clinch the title outright for him, regardless of where the others finish.

The final sprint for the title will take place in Germany on Friday when Ligety, along with the rest of the world's best competitors, vie for a win in the giant slalom race.
