Five of the six categories were able to train at least once on the downhill course, with only the men’s standing category yet to hold a training run. The men in that category have to go down at least once before the downhill race can happen. The details will be specified tonight after the team captain's meeting.
The athletes had the usual ritual they have when they are not racing which consists of some dry land training and physiotherapy.
“I’ve been relaxing today, I did some dry land training with our trainer and I watched movies. The fact that there has been a lot of delays haven’t affected me yet, it’s ski racing and we are in Whistler. It had to be expected. I just keep doing some visualization and I have been watching a lot of video,” said Canadian Para-alpine athlete Morgan Perrin.
Friday’s training run was canceled after three hours of waiting at the start of the hill for the athletes.
“It was actually not that bad yesterday. We had the biggest snowball fight at the start with technicians, athletes and coaches. It was pretty fun and it took our mind off of the many delays, which was really good for the athletes” added Perrin. “I have to be honest, though, I really hope we get to race tomorrow.”
The Paralympic downhill medal event is scheduled to take place Saturday.
