Changchun, China - Kris Freeman (Andover, NH), continuing to build steam as a lead-up to the 2007 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships next week, was 10th Friday - his best World Cup skiing result in three years - in a 15K freestyle race.

Furano, Japan - One step at a time. Matt Morison (Burketon, ON), a Canadian National Team rookie, moved up to the top spot today at the World Cup Snowboard competition in Japan. The 19-year-old stood atop the men's parallel giant slalom (PGS) podium after today’s race, even though before this competition, Morison hadn’t finished better than 12th in PGS on the World Cup tour. Morison has been on a roll with third- and second-place finishes in the past two parallel slalom events.

Wilmington, VT - American Skiing Company (ASC) and its subsidiaries, Mount Snow Ltd. and L.B.O. Holding, Inc., today entered into a purchase agreement to sell Vermont's Mount Snow at New Hampshire's Attitash ski resorts to Peak Resorts, owners and operators of numerous Midwestern ski areas as well as Crotched Mountain ski area in New Hampshire. The purchase price is $73.5 million in cash, plus the assumption of approximately $2.0 million in debt and other liabilities.

Åre, Sweden - Two-time World Championships silver medalist Lindsey Kildow (Vail, CO) injured her right knee in slalom training and has withdrawn from the last two races of the 2007 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships and World Cup races in Spain, she said Friday.

Åre, Sweden - U.S. Ski Team coaches are sorting out their options for who will race Sunday in the team event. The eight-part ski race, introduced at the 2005 Worlds in Bormio, Italy, has two men and two women running downhill and then racing slalom. Teams may choose up to six athletes, up to three men and three women, to compete. A skier does not have to compete in both stages of the competition. The U.S. Ski Team was fourth in Bormio.

Ljubljana, Slovenia - Slovenian extreme skier Davor Karničar has completed his "7 Summits" project, becoming the first person to ski down the highest peaks on each of the world's seven continents. Last on his checklist was the 4,897m (16,066-foot) Mt. Vinson in Antarctica, which he conquered on November 28.
