Aspen, CO - New daily non-stop flights on United Airlines between Aspen/Pitkin County Airport and Houston George Bush Intercontinental Airport are now on sale for the upcoming ski season.
Park City, UT - After four Continental Cup events in August, Park City, Utah's Sarah Hendrickson leads the tour by 29 points. While the Park City teen has her sights set on the World Championships in Oslo, Norway this February, she is going to take a break from the fall tour to focus on the classroom.
Big Bear Lake, CA - Hot Dawgz & Hand Rails (HD&HR), the official kickoff to the 2010-11 Southern California ski and snowboard season, returns to Bear Mountain ski area on Saturday, Sept. 18. The free event features some of the world's best pro snowboarders competing on 110 tons of snow for a shot at the $14,000 cash purse in the Pro Invitational Rail Jam. The Red Bull Best Trick Contest will offer up an additional $5,000 for the men's winner and $1,000 for ladies, bringing the total contest purse to $20,000.
Holladay, UT - Noah Howell, co-founder of Utah's Powderwhore Productions, says that last season's El Niño winter forced them to climb further, dig deeper and flat out try harder in order to create "TeleVision", this year's film of the top telemark skiers in the world playing in untracked powder mixed with big lines, humor, flight time, spills, and all the required deep face shots of good ski porn.
Chapelco, Argentina - Canadian Kelsey Serwa, of Kelowna, British Columbia, won a Continental Cup ski cross race in Chapelco, Argentina, over the weekend that was described as the first ski cross event ever held in South America.
London, UK - The Ski Club of Great Britain has teamed up with Salomon and Snow+Rock to present the Salomon Quest Backcountry Ski Seminar Tour this November. The tour will be presented by established mountain guide Nigel Shepherd and will take place at Snow+Rock stores across the U.K.
Charlotte Pass (NSW), Australia - The body of 15-year-old Evan Greenwood was found by NSW police Tuesday morning about two kilometers from the Charlotte Pass ski lodge he left yesterday.
Park City, UT - The U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association's (USSA) Center of Excellence has had its share of VIP visitors this summer. Among them was German Ski Association President Alfons Hoermann, who took time from his American holiday to visit with USSA President and CEO Bill Marolt. In addition to meeting with his colleague on the International Ski Federation's governing board and touring the Center, it was an opportunity to talk about Germany's excitement to play host to the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships this February in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
Valle Nevado, Chile - The Canadian Para-Alpine Ski Team (CPAST) is back on snow in Chile, spending time focusing on both technical and speed events in preparation for the IPC World Cup season and the 2011 IPC World Alpine Championships in Sestriere, Italy.
