Henniker, NH - Childhood Cancer Lifeline Weekend at Pats Peak, held Feb. 27-28, raised nearly $19,000, providing much needed support for New Hampshire families who have a child battling cancer. This is the 10th Year of the Childhood Cancer Lifeline Event at the southern New Hampshire ski area. Throughout the past ten years, the event has raised more the $175,000 for the lifeline to help New Hampshire families.
Petite-Rivière-St.-François (QC), Canada - – Quebec's Le Massif de Charlevoix is proposing a month of festive events to close out the ski and snowboard season at the resort northeast of Quebec City. Friendly competition, sports challenges, gastronomy, and food tastings with free après ski performances will fill the ski area's Spring Spirit celebration, which will run from March 20 to April 11.
Park City, UT - Ski Utah held its annual media appreciation day last Friday. The day started with a wonderful morning of powder skiing at Park City Mountain Resort featuring 17 inches of "The Greatest Snow on Earth." After skiing, local media were treated to a delicious lunch at the world's only slopeside gastro-distillery, Hight West Distillery in Park City, where awards were presented to the Journalist of the Year, Harriet Wallis, and Weather Enthusiast of the Year, Brett Benson.
Hancock, MA - Jiminy Peak Mountain Resort in western Massachusetts is offering a special for hybrid car owners this Wednesday. Hybrid vehicle owners arriving at the resort before 10 a.m. on Wednesday will receive one free lift ticket for their car load, no matter how many passengers they have. Participants will receive their lift ticket in the parking lot from a Jiminy Peak staff member.
Park City, UT - After skiing with injuries nearly all winter, five-time Olympic medalist Bode Miller, who skied to an inspiring gold medal in the Olympic super combined, will miss the remainder of the World Cup ski season in order to focus on recouping his health.
Ludlow, VT - Olympic gold medalist and snowboarding legend Ross Powers, and his posse of pro riders, will be at Vermont's Okemo Mountain Resort March 22 through 24 for the annual Ross Powers Snowboard Camp. This three-day snowboard camp is open to intermediate and advanced riders who can handle fast-paced training and riding. Proceeds from the Camp benefit the Ross Powers Foundation, a non-profit organization for athletes with financial need.
Vancouver, Canada - ParalympicsGB has selected six sit-skiers and one visually-impaired skier to compete in the Xth Paralympic Winter Games that begin on Friday in Vancouver.
Sun Peaks (BC), Canada - Facing gusts of wind and a chilly overcast day, event organizers opted to wrap up the 2010 Subaru Velocity Challenge World Cup speed skiing races on Sunday after a racer fell on the track during the second run of the day.
Oslo, Norway - With a first place finish at Sunday's 6Star Oakley Arctic Challenge at Tryvann Vinterpark in Oslo, Finland's Peetu Piiroinen earned an unassailable lead in the TTR World Rankings. In two weeks, he will be crowned Swatch TTR World Snowboard Champion at the final 6Star event of the Tour, the Burton U.S. Open.
Panarotta, Italy - For the second day in a row 15-year-old Mikaela Shiffrin took a gold medal, winning the giant slalom during the 49th running of the Trofeo Topolino, the world's most prestigious children's ski race.
Crans Montana, Switzerland - Olympic Champion Lindsey Vonn and Olympic silver medalist Julia Mancuso left their mark on Switzerland, going 2-3 in an Audi FIS World Cup super G on Sunday. Switzerland's Dominique Gisin won the race, marking the third World Cup win of her career.
Kvitfjell, Norway - Canadian Erik Guay, of Mont-Tremblant, Quebec, made a mark in his record book Sunday as he took the first World Cup super G win of his ski racing career in Norway. Travis Ganong, of Squaw Valley, Calif., led the way for the U.S. finishing 28th.
Inawashiro, Japan - Olympic bronze medalist Shannon Bahrke, of Tahoe City, Calif., took to the podium again Sunday, notching a third place in Japan during a World Cup dual moguls skiing competition riddled with heavy fog and delays. The men's event was canceled.
Franconia, NH - Five-time Olympic medalist Bode Miller of Franconia, who captured a historic full complement of medals in Vancouver, is auctioning his signed Olympic helmet on eBay to help raise money for Pam Warman, a former U.S. Ski Team technician, who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer.
Vail, CO - Olympic gold medalist Lindsey Vonn (Vail, CO) has teamed with TV host and comedian Ellen DeGeneres to continue the earthquake relief efforts in Haiti by auctioning a signed pair of skis and poles on eBay.
