Took the day off yesterday, but not for skiing. We went up to Promintory on the north side of the lake to Orbital ATK to watch the test of NASA's new largest ever solid fuel rocket motor:

Yes, it sure was!
Things I didn't fully expect:
* the incredible brightness of the flame [btw, it was burning 5.5 tons of fuel per second]
* the sound was unforgettable and much louder than you might think - the public viewing area was about 1.25 miles away
* feeling the initial pressure wave and follow-up secondary waves

The sound and feel cannot be replicated watching a video or TV screen no matter the sound system. Not that I was at this specific event, but even for smaller rockets this is true.
