2008-09 Ski Day Count

Same ground rules as other years -- don't post your list until you're really done and no smartass "ask me in June!" or "I don't keep track" comments.

23 days: my lowest day count and earliest season end in many years, ugh. Can't believe how few "local" days I logged this year. Nine powder days: that's a mezzo-mezzo 39% ratio... luckily, last week's UT trip helped that out a bit.

4 Belleayre, NY
2 Whiteface, NY
2 Hunter, NY
2 Windham, NY
1 Greek Peak, NY
2 Stratton, VT
1 Red River, NM
1 Sipapu, NM
1 Angel Fire, NM
1 Taos, NM
1 Pajarito, NM
1 Santa Fe, NM
1 Alta, UT
1 Brighton, UT
1 Snowbasin, UT
1 Solitude, UT

7 Belleayre
1 Hunter
3 Sugarbush
2 Jimmny Peak
2 Gore

Kind of sad ,but you do your best
# of powder days ..who cares , there all good . Just happy to be skiing

Sounds like you're deciding it's done rather than letting actual conditions determine doneness. Seems that most of the major areas in VT are still in operation for 1 or 2 more weeks, and I suspect that some people are hiking MRG today.

That's correct. Logistically, I don't think any trips north over the next two weekends are in the cards for me... to say nothing about my depleted bank account.

And kitchen issues from wife after going on ski trips and taking pictures of girls 20-30 years younger.

When she's with me on a trip, I always take photos of my wife and post them. That wasn't the case this time, so I needed something -- ANYTHING -- to provide visual contrast to the snow.

There wasn't much snow to contrast with around Miss Vermont. The picture was taken inside!!!

Now you're nitpicking.

With your photographic style of your TR, you should go to Argentina. I've never been good or bold enough to take picture of strangers.

I'm sure Patrick's not done. But the subpar eastern spring will raise the bar on keeping his streak alive. With July scraps unlikely he'll have to do out-of-region travel twice this summer to keep it alive. That didn't stop him 3 years ago though.

Travel twice? Not necessarily. 8-[ :brick: <<<< Illustration of spouse throwing frying pan.

There was also in-region skiing on the July 4th 06 when I was in California, too soon to say if it's an option. I'm currently aiming for May, one month at a time. Meanwhile, I'll try to get as much skiing I can in April as I've been under last year's pace for every month this season (equal in November), except my +1 over in March.

Something I never do, is take my next ski day for granted. I'm old enough to know that sickness, accidents happen, even off the slope (ie. December back injury or car accident with injury while driving for Tremblant's last year back in 2004). This winter has shown me more than ever, never take anything for granted. Go one day at a time. :(

My worst season since college! 5 days, thats right count em' 5 friggin days. Thank you surgery and abdominal complications! Would've gotten more in had my bills not been so high due to the cost of the retarded employer based health care system in this country (self employed  ). Don't forget I missed 2 months of work too, and when you're self employed.... That'll kill ski days.

1 whiteface
2 vail
1 keystone, breck, a-basin
1 loveland

Afterwards, season was dead! I guess there's always next year! :(

James , I just read that the AVN Awards ( Adult Video ) are at Vail next Jan.. :-$
I bet there would be some great photo ops 8)

If it's any consolation.....I've been skiing for about 25 years, but rock climbing for 38. Back in the day, a typical climbing season was over 100 days. Then I went to grad school (nights) while working a full time job - and one particular year took two courses each during spring, summer session, and autumn. Besides the weekly 6 in-class hours for each course, you can safely assume an additional 15 hrs per course per week. That year worked out to zero ski days and 6 climbing days.

Without a doubt!
In 1998, the annual CHI conference (Computer Human Interaction) was held in LA at the downtown civic center. CHI registration starts on Saturday, workshops and tutorials are Sunday and Monday, with the actual conference starting on Tuesday. That weekend, co-booked in the other half of the civic center, wasn't the AVN, but some other porn convention of some sort. Computer geeks, cognitive psychologists, graphic designers, interaction designers, usability practitioners mixed with porn stars, porn film producers, film distributors, buyers, etc. One of the more unique CHI conferences!

I'll take that suggestion under advisement. :-$

BTW... the ski days for a summer 2009 South America trip would fall under which season: 2008-09 or 2009-10?

On another ski discussion list, the new ski season official start is Labor Day, although for the continental US and southern Canada, realistically, it's probably closer to October 1 the vast majority of years.

Labour Day might work for the Utards, but it doesn't apply for the travelling folk. Anyway, this has already discussed, I'm sure Tony will find the link.

James, SA trip falls wherever you want it to fall. I personally included it as an end of my NA season, but it doesn't really matter.

Actually the discussion list that set Labor Day is nominally Vermont-centric. The start day has nothing to do with whether there actually is snow anywhere.
