Laptop in suitcase...

With the new regulations for flights between Canada and the US allowing only one carry-on item, I wonder if my laptop could survive the AA flight to SLC in my suitcase ? I would really prefer taking my boots with me in the plane but I also really would like having my laptop with me over there to chase powder, any suggestions ?
 
I think you are allowed to take two carry-ons to canada, and only one back to the states. But if you're only allowed one take your boots on your way to go skiing. You could try to take your boots with your laptop in your boot-pack, and carry your laptop on your lap or on your person.
 
I flew back from Calgary Feb. 6 with my boot-carrying backpack plus a small briefcase carrying a laptop. The one item restriction has been lifted AFAIK.
 
Laptop would be fine in your suitcase if you go that route. I put mine in the middle of my roll aboard with clothes on top and below, never had a problem.
