Burton Closes Vermont Manufacturing Plant

My first guess would be there is already a shop there producing a high volume of boards (perhaps so high volume the factory produces more than just Burton boards but perhaps other companies as well) so economies of scale would be in effect. My second guess would be cheaper labor/benefits. I am actually surprised that a major ski equipment company still produced gear domestically. It seems like only the up and coming lesser known "house brands" produce domestically any more. The only real surprise here is that they did not go straight to China. Even Volkl sent their skis to the Orient.
