This is a test.
I will try this first.

Thanks for these great pics. I skied Killington on
memorial day that year, but without a camera. I remember the massive snow depths on Cascade and Downdraft and these pictures confirm my memories.
Going back to what was said about there being a problem with the using of the Killington double chair for multiple uses, the opening of the season on October 1st 1993 did not include snow being made on Boomerang and Home Run (aka Upper Great Northern) so one had walk to the snow on Cascade. This was done so as not to interfere with sightseeing and mountain biking for the foliage season.

Frank

Heres an up close view of the snowmaking on Superstar, it really is not all that much snow.
I was skiing Upper Cascade on October 31st and took these pictures going back to my hotel.

Lol, it's weird to see Superstar just with a little bit of snow. Hey Guys, stay in the no-bulls please. I'm not sure if the conversation would be seen by the people if it's on the liftlines Anyway, we could continue here just for today, but starting tomorrow, we can continue on my conversation of tomorrow, it will be less big to load.

A big thanks for the pics, you both !!!!!

Here is a scan of the front page of the Rutland Herald showing skiing on Upper Cascade.

The caption below the picture reads:

OCTOBER OPENING

Skiers ride up a chairlift on opening day thursday at the Killington Ski Area. The resort
siad it was the earliest opening yet (thanks to man-made snow) for an eastern ski area.

Got to go to work

later guys

I saved A Complete newspaper with the above picture on the front page. Killington as mentioned before made national news for this extra early opening day. Maybe we should all flood the ASC website with demands for an early season opening (Sept 25!
would be nice) then there would only be two months
missing for lift served skiing open to the public.

2 months ???
may 26 to sept 25 = 4 months !! (june + july + august = 3, if you count skiing during some months)

I think it's more for the 2004-05 season that we could see that. If Tenney proves that it's possible to economically do snowmaking so early, Killington will probably buy the system, cause next year, I don't think Killington will be the first to open, unless they decided to open on october 1 to be the first with Tenney.

16 days remaining until Tenney open their snowtubing hill for the summer. I'm so eager to see if the snow will stick a little bit on the slope !!

What I meant was that Killington could have lift served skiing for the two months that they are missing for lift served operations (July & August)
if they opened in september, but I understand you.
Personally I had July - September done already by
1987 in Europe and Mt Hood, but it is another matter to do this in the east. If Killington wants to beat Tenney they better start praying to mother nature right now!!. Opening prior to October 1st would be difficult with a system that needs below freezing temperatures. Will you be visiting the snow tubbing at Tenney this summer
if it works out?

Frank:

Have you been to the Snow Magic website?

www.snowmagic.com

There are pictures of some late/early season skiing from Japan and France.

Hello Kevin,

After the end of my summer school term (july 7), I'm gonna have 1 month and half to not work and not study. So... all is possible. I would like to go to Mt Albert if there is still some good runs to do there. I should find some co-skiers, though, cause I never went there to ski or hike and I don't have a huge experience in backcountry skiing + camping. Also, damn the Chic-Chocs are far !

(if someone here is interested lol)

I don't think Tuck will still have a lot of snow in july, but if I go to Tenney to see the little snowtrack (and slide on it for sure), I would like to see Mt Washington, as I never seen that mountain of my life (although already seen Lafayette + Cannon, about 15 years ago) I don't know if I would bring my skis ;)

I wonder if someone will be able to ski during every month this year in the east. In 2001, some writers here did it, just in the east, but this year, it's gonna be tougher, without tuck in august. One of my correspondant told me he often saw big snowpatches on Mt Albert during august, so I guess it could be a possibility, for the ones who don't care to drive 10h northeast.

P.S:

I just called Tenney and the operator says that they are getting there Snow Magic machine in one week. June 13th will be the first day of operation. A group of 12 people or more is need if you want to go tubbing before 5pm, or single people may tube from 5-9pm, sounds cool (literally).

I didn't see them, Kevin, thanks to told me that, the japan pic is pretty impressive !!

see the middle pic at bottom

http://www.snowmagic.com/snowAroundGlobe/snowAroundGlobe.html

Does anyone plan to go to Tenney? I might go on the 14th or 15th if the weather is good. Do snow tubbing reports in mid June count?

Good question Kevin !
I think it would be better on liftlines actually or in the no-bull indicating clearly it's not skiing in the subject of conversation (all the skiers would become crazy if not) lolol

I let Marc give you the correct answer !

Frank:

You can check the condition of the ravines on Mt
Washington at:

www.mountwashington.com

When you get to the site scroll down to the item
(worlds worst weather) click on it, scroll down again to (live view from summit) click on it, click again on the link that has moved and you will come to a page that has three cameras:

1) North view
2) Summit view
3) Ravines- here you can see Tucks & Huntington.

There is some snow yet but I do not know if it will last onto the summer. I've skied Tuckermans
in late may in 1990. It's fun to drive to the top
or take the steam cog railway (done both).

a HUGE thanx for this link !!!!! I didn't know that there was a cam website.

They changed of website, so this is the new link they redirected...

http://www.mountwashington.org/cam/

The visibility is really poor today, it should be interesting to see, during great meteo conditions.

Again, thanks a lot !

Frank:

Also try this website:

www.timefortuckerman.com

lots of info on conditions and somewhat recent pictures.
