I forgot to post something here from Sunday, the final day of the northeast's January thaw. This time, it wasn't the rain that killed us, but high temps (near 60) combined with snow-eating fog. It was actually a day of beautiful spring skiing; the only problem is that it came three months early.

Vinny and Joey demonstrate how warm it was:

The real reason I went up was to spend the day with the Wounded Warriors, an incredible experience and something to consider the next time you're arguing about the incidence of inversions in January.

JSpin's report from Stowe on Sunday was similarly favorable. Warm, spring conditions, sunny not rainy. Stowe was 66% open Tuesday, but Jay 41%, Sugarbush 55% and Killington 54%. All were 95+% open a week earlier.

"Favorable," but certainly not what we want at this point of the year, especially given the conditions during Xmas week. Check out this clip posted yesterday on TGR of what I assume to be Mansfield a couple weeks ago -- with a nice extended face shot at 1:56.
