Once again the siren song of a Discover NY Ski Day discount lift ticket gave me an excuse to ski Whiteface, although the price doubled from last year to $24. First day of a 3 day eastern trip started with ridiculous cold. The upper mountain was closed after overnight wind chills of around -60 degrees F and ongoing wind chills of -40. Invigorating!!! Definitely a full facemask day. Snow conditions were very good and skied traffic was light.

Spent the early part of the day riding the face lift and skiing greens as I was teaching an old high school friend, who hadn't skied in 25 years, how to turn using shaped skis. (My first victim - having got my level 1 Instructors certification just before Christmas.) By 11 am my friend was confident enough to try blues so we spent the remainder of the day riding the gondola. Cloud obscured the summit the entire day.

One picture from the top of Little Whiteface.

We eastern skiers are a hardy lot, willing to exchange nearly frozen fingers for goggles you can see out of...
