Day 2 of 5...

We had our choice of 4 ski areas in central New Hampshire offering $17 lift tickets on St. Patrick's Day and I think we lucked out choosing Wildcat. Weather called for near freezing with a "wintry mix" but aside for some brief ice pellets, we got mostly light slow all day. What was even stranger was that although Mt Washington across the Gap to the north west was generally obscured by dark clouds, the skies to the south and east stayed relatively bright and the light was good for picking up the terrain.

We all agreed, we like Wildcat! The high speed quad lifts you 2100' to the top in under 8 minutes, there's a good variety of top to bottom runs for all levels and the smaller crowds mean you get a lot of quality skiing. Add to that the constant views of Tuckerman's and Mt. Washington and a very laid back vibe in the chalet and what's not to like? Skied till the thighs turned to rubber and then dropped down to North Conway for some factory outlet retail therapy. Tomorrow we'll take it easier at Bretton Woods.
