(Note from the Administrator: This report was originally posted on 5/11/99. We had a great time. I had to bail at 12:30,
but it was well worth being there. It never did rain while I was there
although it was pretty foggy. The fog started to lift and shift to different
parts of Superstar, making things pretty interesting. Snow was a bit firm at
first, but was softening rapidly as it began to fly up from the bumps from
mid-trail and down. I occasionally inhaled a piece or two, which always is a
good indicator of classic spring skiing. Other good indicators are skiing in
a T-shirt, working up a sweat & watching your friends do the same while
absorbing the experience. There's more- the bare spot at the top is all the
way across the trail now, requiring a short walk across the grass, rocks &
mud to get to the goods. We made a bunch of runs in a short time, during
which Garry achieved an admirable goal- 1 Million Vertical Feet for the
season. Wow! I've no idea what my total is, but I'd love to start keeping
track, gotta get myself one of those nice Advocets like Garry has. I did hit
a benchmark that I didn't have as a goal to start the season, but as it
approached, I did become a little excited about it. It was my 80th ski day
of the season- a total that I've never even come close to before and
probably never will again. The season is really winding down now, I can't
imagine that any more lifts will be running in the East by the end of the
week. Looks like anything after that will have to be earned.
