Tremblant and the Laurentians

Noticed that Tremblant was white on top as the top 1000 ' is frosted over as there has been some light snow above 2000' the last few days . Decided to hike to the summit today to get a first hand look and can advise there is about 4 " to 6" of snow on top which tapers down to nothing once you descend from the summit. Warm air moving in this week so not good for snow making .

Since my last report , you could probably count the amount of snowflakes that have fallen in this area. Seriously in the last month have recorded about 2 inches of snow but only to be washed away by record amounts of rain during the past few days . Temps currently below freezing so snow guns are blazing but nothing out of the sky 8-[ , however cold temps in the forecast so maybe the next band of moisture will be snow.

Just about a inch or 2 of snow in the Laurentians from the recent storm that saw 2 feet in the townships , more in VT and even a foot in metro Montreal ! go figure ](*,) . Hopefully our luck will change this weekend as warm air moving in with a rain /snow mix and maybe the St Lawrence river valley will act as the divider for the snow line . Don't feel like making a road trip just yet chasing Monday's storm .

December 17th . Had a a powder day today in the Northern Laurentians as about 9" to 10 " inches of dry snow fell since the rain last Sunday in the Northern regions with about 4 " in the southern sector . Once again the best trails were the natural snow trails which were closed . The official open trails were rolled and as hard as concrete . Snow pack is slowly building up inch by inch . Still require another 2 ' to open things up , however the rain from last week helped set up a base with the snow that was there before the rain .

Time for a quick no bull update as the situation for natural snow skiing is grim for the 3rd year in a row . Freezing rain , rain , fog and drizzle in the forecast with temps already above freezing. Everything should freeze over by Sunday night -Monday morning . Wasn't much snow to melt anyway ( about 1.5 ft base on average ) .

We finally received some snow in the Laurentians worth writing about , ok only about 4 " to 6 " but will take it . Headed out today to our local powder hill ( Alta ) to be in time for the opening of the lift . Skiing was great on the open trails as the new snow was just enough to float on the hard base which is probably less than a foot. It was great to ski close to home with no crowds and no commercial BS . Just need a major dump to open up the woods. Home again after being on the road the last few weeks searching for snow.

Skiing is in good shape these days with base depths over 2 feet and another 6 to 8 inches today . We have had powder weekends 4 weeks in a row, not deep powder ( about 4 to 6 inches each week ) but just enough to make it interesting . Above freezing temps in the forecast for later in the week so will have to see what happens.

Back from skiing in VT but still recovering from a back injury . Kids headed out to local mole hill to do the snow cross. , Today , we hiked up into the hills and skied down an old abandoned lift line . About 2 feet of snow has accumulated in the region during the last 2 weeks , however rain for a time yesterday followed by snow so there was a crust in the snow that grabbed you in a vise grip when you broke through .

Is the top picture from Belle Neige?

Yeah, we got snow rain snow. Pretty good accumulation.

This week there was about a foot of new snow followed by torrential rains . This morning after the rain we headed out to Alta to see a thick blanket of snow that had been saturated with water . Since the new snow hadn't been tracked out it looked good but skied like glue . Kept skiing it all day and eventually groomed it out just by skiing . Snowpack is deep , good thing as more mild weather in the forecast.

After skiing at Jay last Sunday , we stayed home this week and skied the local low elevation Laurentian corn snow . Saturday was the best day as snow transformed early in the morning with a mix of sun of clouds and light winds. Today , under clear condtions the snow barely softened up due to persistent north winds cranking all day long . Still good base depths as snow should outlast the scheduled lift closing dates.
