Unexpectedly good.

Based on part of the annual guys trip crew having skied LL earlier in the week and Sunshine having had more snowfall lately we were going to go back to Sunshine. Until a big squall line hit and LL updated their snow report page at 8:15am just as we were heading for the TC1. They had gotten an additional 6" in less than 2 hours since the normal snow report which had 2" (8" total for those keeping track). It turns out that it was a great call for several reasons.

First the back bowls definitely had at least 8" in there and skied very good to great. Second, we hit a wall of nearly stopped traffic on TC1 as we headed to LL. We didn't find out for another day, but turns out a Bus flipped on the 2 lane road into Sunshine and they didn't get the road re-opened until something like 3pm. Apparently for the few that had made it in to Sunshine super early, it was true country club skiing all day long. With the delay we and many others arrived pretty late (~10:30 am).

Anyway we skied a front side lap so the intermediates in the total guys trip group could get warmed up. It was a combination of soft freshies but also plenty of scratch and in wind swept areas super scratch. Then we headed to the backside with the more advanced skiers in the group primarily hitting some of the chutes off of Paradise triple. We regrouped for lunch back at the frontside realizing that the mid-mountain lodge only served sit-down meals with a 45 minute wait. On the way back up we took the run of the day eventually getting up the Poma as the clouds began to allow occasional sun-ish-ness to peak through. few had hit the chutes directly off the poma since it would have been Braille skiing all morning with heavy cloud and light snow still falling.

We then went back to several laps on Paradise again before patrol closed the steeps and we headed down the by now scratchy groomers to the base. Several pitchers of brew later we were among the last few out of there for the day.
