Alta, UT Opening Weekend Dec. 2-3

For only the second time in my 14 ski seasons living in Utah, Alta opened late this year, by a week and a half.

We were by and large skiing manmade groomers, Mambo/Meadow to Corkscrew/Schuss Gully/Nina's Curve off of Collins, and Devil's Elbow off of Sugarloaf. We were surprised to see them allowing us onto some natural snow terrain as well, including Ballroom, Main Street and Aggie's Alley. We preferred the chalky snow in Ballroom to High Mambo, which was slick manmade in spots.

By Sunday some spots were wearing thin, but they also added Wildcat out to Westward Ho so we were able to do some exploring out there. We'd hoped that the incoming storm predicted to drop 6-12" would arrive in time to freshen things a bit for Sunday afternoon, but it was late in starting and didn't really get underway until closing time.
