This was the first day of our trip without any fresh snow. It was also the first day of our trip during which I found any spring snow, but only in the afternoon in the Goat’s Eye chutes. Otherwise, good packed-powder conditions were prevalent everywhere, although we did not ski down to the gondola base at the end of the day.

We all had a fairly nasty cold at this point in our trip, so we took it a little easier. First turns were made about 10:15 AM, although we did ski until about 4:30 PM. A lot of the day was sunny, but mid-level clouds blew in and out in the morning and early afternoon, and upper level clouds rolled in mid afternoon, all of which helped to preserve the snow. High temps were in the 20s.

We warmed up with a few high-speed groomer laps off of Wawa. The clouds were dramatic.

The rest of the morning we skied off of Teepeetown, Angle Express and Great Divide. The weather continued to be interesting.

We spent the afternoon racking up some serious vertical on Goat’s Eye. My wife and daughter enjoy the long steep groomers there.

I like the chutes. The first two were getting bumped up, but by traversing to the chutes further out, I was able to find smooth, supportable corn that lasted all the way through Eagle Basin. It was worth it to take the higher entrance and traverse.

About 3 PM, high cloud cover rolled in.

Right after the sun went away, I skied one more lap of the Goat’s Eye chutes, but could tell the snow was already starting to firm up. With the flat light and stiffening snow, I opted for a few more high-speed groomer laps with my wife and daughter before we called it a day.

How could you possibly have fun on Goat's Eye -- it faces southwest!
