Night skied at Summit West. (I know, the little one).
Tempuratures were mild mid-30's. Almost clear skies
with just a light high cloud cover that the brighter
stars peeked through. Snow was 18" of spackle that
had a very firm crust that sounded hollow when pole
planting. Off-piste was pretty nasty with that crust
preventing any kind of low speed turns.
Basicly, the only way to ride was flat-out high speed
and hope to control the tossing around the snow inflicted
on you. Grooming was very ridgy. It was described
as "overly grippy" by my wife. It felt to her like the
snow was in charge of the skis, not her. A lifty told
me they're expecting up to 30 inches of new starting
Friday night. -TomK
