Mt. Baldy, Calif. 2/14/2001

I usually send SoCal snow reports only to the Southland Ski Server. However, the extraordinary storm of Feb. 11-13 (5-7 feet) is worthy of national attention.

As Mt. Baldy is a "mom and pop" operation with limited staff, they were not able to dig out their lifts and start selling tickets until 11AM. The quality of skiing for the next 5 hours was the second best I have even seen in Southern California in 150+ days over the past 25 years.

Pictures tell the story better than words, especially to those unfamiliar with the area, so I have posted a few with comments at http://webpages.charter.net/tcrocker818/bldy2141.htm.

For those interested in more details about Mt. Baldy (ambience similar to what I hear about Mad River Glen), I have published a detailed resort guide at http://webpages.charter.net/tcrocker818/bldyguid.htm.
