Snow conditions ranged widely, from firm but nicely groomed manmade on the cruisers, to springlike wet packed powder in the beginner area on top, to truly thin and heavy fresh on some other runs like Miner's Alley. Clearly, Red River had the thinnest snowpack of any NM resort that we visited this week. One thing that impressed was the lack of crowding on President's Day - while on Linton's Leap, no matter how far up and down the Copper Chair liftline we could see no one riding it!

Bottom line: have edges for the frontside cruisers, enjoy the warm sun on the backside easy stuff, and look out for rocks, stumps and other assorted nasties when skiing ungroomed, especially down low.
