Wolf Creek, 4/1

Wolf Creek lived up to its reputation (this was my first visit) with deep coverage (not a rock in sight except for the Waterfall cliffs) and winter snow still on its steeper terrain. Elsewhere there was a gradual transition to spring conditions but no real hardpack or slush. Weather was sunny but a bit windy at the top of the lifts.

Wolf Creek is mostly intermediate in pitch with fall lines a little over 1,000 vertical, but it sprawls over a couple of miles off a north facing ridge. Thus there are many skiable lines, particularly since the trees are more spaced than most Colorado areas. Powder potential is obvious due to terrain, history of big dumps and remote location, 4 hours from any significant population center.

The base elevation is 10,600 and as it was our second day after leaving sea level my son got an altitude headache while eating a double burger at lunch.
