Banff Mt. Norquay, March 16

Our group went to Norquay for a ski race. The arctic started to take over the weather, which remained in low single digits all day. Morning was sunny and afternoon overcast. Norquay has one high speed lift with predominantly groomed runs. This would normally be a welcome break with my dead legs this week, but at speed my face was pretty frozen at the bottom of these runs. I actually looked for a few moguls to get warmer!

On average Norquay gets meager natural snow, but today conditions were very good. Only on ungroomed south slopes was there a hard or crusty subsurface, and there were a few inches new on top of that. After lunch I did a couple of steep runs on the old North American chair, but even those did not prevent the onslaught of chill upon a body accustomed to SoCal. Had there been any wind I would have wimped out much earlier.

Sunday temps were -13F in Banff, so I decided to take a pass on skiing the last day and catch up on snow reports.
