Fernie Conditions????

With the demise of Craig's Fernie Ski Reports I was wondering if anyone else could offer an unbiased opionion of how things are currently at Fernie.

The loss of Craig's reports is a pity, isn't it? Aside from a vacationer occasionally posting here (we know of no other locals to post here), I really don't know of another source. Maybe we could twist Craig's arm to post here occasionally instead.

Saturday Jan 04/03
Rain on Thursday turned everything to ice. The new snow posted on Fernie Resort website was 90% Bull.

Anonymous, if you're a Fernie regular, we'd love to have you post here regularly.

im there on jan 10.Cindy at the snowed inn advises that its pretty good at the top & still pretty grim down low

I will be in Fernie/Island lake Feb. 1-6. I too was dismayed to see the demise of Craig's report. We have corresponded by e-mail since before my visit there in 1999. Like Marc I skied with him a morning and hung on for dear life to keep up. I'll mention this site to him, but I would imagine it takes the same effort to post here as to his own. I would think that the digital pics are much of the work, but who knows?

I will be in Fernie Jan 20 and should have email access so will be glad to post here then. Thanks for the feedback so far.

I'll be there from the 24th-7feb travel all the way from little Norway, Europe

Hoping for the same condotions as last year, but doesnt look so good yet, but mucho snow ahead guys and girls !

Some friends of mine who like skiing similar things and will definitely give the straight scoop have expressed an interest in writing the reports in my place. We have to work out some logistics, but reports from my site, but not written by me, might start again within a week or two.

FWIW we have had no snow for a while now and conditions are pretty firm - great Eastern skiing was what one wag said in the locker room today. Rain a while back did leave the bottom grim, but then some heavy wet snow came a froze and that has kept the bottom in fairly decent (i.e. not too rocky shape).

Greetings from fernie. Its Jan. 16 I think. On the 5th day of 8 with cindy at the Snowed Inn. Since Craig's entry of last week, there was 15 cm. on Sunday & yesterday morning was very nice indeed. There,s a good base top to bottom. The cup is definitely more than half full. Tony "Mr. I always bring the snow" from Melbourne is here now ,so we are saved. Cheers.

Good news for all the fans of the Unofficial Fernie Reports from Redtree -

Some friends of Mr. Morris have taken up the torch and are posting reports to the Redtree site - keeping it alive. The writers may be different but the highest standards of no-bull content and integrity are still there. So far I have enjoyed reading reports from Bernie and Heintz.

I tip my touque to everyone involved. Fernie and Redtree has more that just first class powder going for it.
