I'm planning a skiing trip to Canada early next year but am unsure as to which is the best month to ski with respect to snow conditions etc. I have chosen Whistler/Lake Louise as I have heard these are the best - any suggestions would be awesome!

Peter.Cearns@fw.co.nz

(Note from the Administrator: This message was originally posted on 11/10/99. Fortunately, La Nina is still very much in control of our weather, and this bodes well for the new season. In fact, Lake Louise has had near record, if not record early-season snowfalls, and is currently open with all lifts running.

Whistler should also benefit significantly from the La Nina effect. My efforts determined that it was significantly cheaper to ski in Alberta than at Whistler, but your mileage may vary, especially if you choose lodging at the Chateau Lake Louise.

Whistler has a reputation for crummy weather, including rain at the lower elevations and frequent whiteout conditions and fog. However, their enormous vertical often lends itself to dramatically different conditions between the top and the bottom.

By reputation, Whistler/Blackcomb shouldn't be missed. Sounds like a tough decision!
