Le Tour or now known as Le Domaine de Balme.

My first day in Chamonix was windy and snowy, so of course we went to Le Tour. This probably is not what you want to do....but my British 'mates' had the car.

Le Tour is wide, wide open. You can ski anywhere on almost any exposure. It has a reputation for easy cruising -- and this is true. Most people are happy just to stay on-piste. But this leaves a lot of off-piste untouched. Actually the worst skiing was on-piste since the traffic was scraping the base down to almost rocks.

Le Tour really shines on its north side off the Le Tete de Balme HS Quad. There are open off piste slopes (see photos), nice glades and woodsy pistes. Very nice terrain -- especially in storms. Also, according to the Chamonix Off Piste Guide, this is highly avy prone terrain, so bring the proper gear.

Overall, I would recommend Le Tour to anyone.
